I woke up this morning thinking about
integrals. Creating endless lines of complex numbers all crunched up into one
only equation that will turn out to be the shortest, and simplest of the steps
a noble engineer must solve to get to a final solution which might be an even
better reason to burst into flames. I kept this thought in my mind for a good
part of the day trying to figure out how in the world it is that I will be able
to endure through this training by only training. Immediately I snapped and
realized how theoretical all my life has been, never really applying anything
to a practical scenario in which to see and feel what my math has foreseen.
This is fascinating, having a science, a method so effective and accurate that
it is able to describe reality and changes in the world over a piece of paper.
It is the step I am aching to take, reading about the amazing things one can do
being good at math. So, in theory, theory will make you better at reality.
In their simplest defined function, integrals
are used to describe the area under a defined curve. Now, when I think of solving
an exercise, the moment one must start to solve an integral having a given
domain or parameters that we just suppose will bring reasonable solutions, I
ask myself, how do we create our exercises? Most of them are created from examples that
have been fronted as problems by engineers trying to do something on earth. I
cant think of a problem with the same anxiety and excitement I would one that
has been posed to me as part of the problems I encountered making the design
for an electricity generator or a battery. I remind myself that building a
bridge or blowing up a mountain, it’s all a matter of study and mind crafted
planning of every minuscule detail, measured to exactitude through our
existence that gives us the power to create use of the universe to our benefit.
Our minds have always distanced humans from any other living being we have encountered
yet, it has permitted our race to eliminate any kind of scale in which to
measure dominance. There is no defying us. Now that we have the planet to
ourselves we can point our thought towards commodity and progress at its purest.
Great movements and constructions which require moving earths crust around to
suit our convenience and erect skyscrapers that will hold thousands of humans
at once under a glorious roof cramped around hundreds of other
mega-constructions that pack us tightly together in numbers that scale up to
seven billion humans, most of them knowing about the world and having knowledge
of how things work and why do so never seen before. All product of the mind.
A point to look at, one that will guide your
direction when you are trying to find that space in which to help humanity
climb up the mountain it is trying to conquer. The direction I find useful has
finally presented itself to me and I trust that my eyes don’t fool me in seeing
it as an engineering, with all its theory and preplanning.
